Physicians Working Together (PWT) friends and colleagues gathered during June 2020 to celebrate its 5th anniversary! Despite the limitations of social distancing, PWT President Dr. Kimberly Jackson and other members connected to celebrate with virtual events on social media and Zoom. Additionally, Board Members, Dr. Christina Lang and Dr. Maria Jhin Lassila organized and conducted interviews with special guests such as Dr. Dana Corriel of SoMeDocs, Dr. Sandra Lee, better known as TLC's "Dr. Pimple Popper", and many more.
Physicians Working Together is a non-profit organization dedicated to connecting, collaborating, and caring for physicians, medical students, and the communities that we serve. Our international membership base includes physicians and medical students. Although June 9, 2020, was our official 5th-anniversary date, we strive to celebrate our members all year long.
COVID-19 has taken the world by storm. We're experiencing a new normal that will take us a while to adjust accordingly. During these unprecedented times, Physicians Working Together members can lean on each other to get through the unruly pandemic.
PWT was founded in June 2015 by Kimberly F. Jackson, MD to unite physicians of all levels of training and specialties. PWT provides a platform for doctors to combine efforts and find solutions through shared physician experiences. Bringing the ailing patient-doctor relationship back to the central focus of healing and respect spurred Dr. Jackson to form PWT and ultimately National Physicians Week, which celebrated its inaugural year in 2016.
PWT strives to initiate actionable efforts that engage and educate the entire physician community through events like our biannual town hall meetings. These forums provide the opportunity for physicians and patients to discuss solutions to the challenges that are impacting the healthcare industry. PWT is in action to impact the future of medicine by empowering pre-med and medical students with mentorship and financial support through our non-profit organization.
In 2019, PWT and OpenXmed, along with other sponsors, awarded the first Medical Student Contest Scholarship during National Physicians Week. Multiple medical students come together to share their talents and the joy of medicine by submitting videos. This year's sponsors, JPL Family Medicine and Bridgeway Diagnostics presented the 2020 PWT Medical Student Scholarship Award to Jasmine Robinson of CRWU School of Medicine.
The Medical Student Scholarship contest is an annual event and feature of the PWT Future Physicians of America Program. We also offer a Virtual Mentorship Program that provides ongoing support to medical and pre-med students. The overall objective is to inspire medical career goals for students in underserved areas and to help current medical students successfully matriculate into their respective areas of residency and future specialties.
A sincere and heartfelt "thank you" to our wonderful supporters! We are excited to see what the next 5 and more years will bring!
